SHIELDING GASKETS Metal Textiles all metal mesh shielding gasketing is a versatile material used in a wide variety of applications where: High attenuation is required Ease of installation or field replacement is required Extremes in temperature or atmospheric conditions are encountered Metal Textiles mesh shielding gaskets have been proven in aerospace, avionics, automotive and electronics systems, solving the most demanding shielding and sealing problems. Mesh shielding gaskets can be made from any ductile material that can be drawn to form a wire. Wire diameters are typically in the range of .0035″ to .011″, with other diameters available for specific applications. The most common materials include: Monel—An alloy of nickel and copper with good electrical performance and excellent corrosion resistance. Tin-plated, copper-clad steel—SnCuFe is a 1005-1010 steel wire, with a copper outer cladding and a tin-plated exterior. This material has excellent electrical properties and provides EM attenuation over a wide range of frequencies. Aluminum—Alloy 5056 wire provides good electrical performance, is lightweight and is also useful in applications where galvanic corrosion is a concern. Stainless Steel—Good electrical performance. This material is often used for its mechanical characteristics and corrosion resistance. All-metal shielding mesh gaskets are typically installed using mechanical fasteners, press fit into a groove or return flange on a sheet metal enclosure, or bonded in place using a conductive adhesive.   CONNECTOR GASKETS Metal Textiles shielding connector gaskets provide EMI shielding and environmental sealing for a wide array of connector types – including aluminum wire cloth, nickel copper alloy, aluminum and silver plated glass in connector shell sizes from 6-16″. When a shielding connector gasket is installed between the mounting flange and an enclosure bulkhead, the gasket is compressed between the two surfaces. Conductive Silicone Adhesive

Metal Textiles Conductive Silicone Adhesive is an RTV silicone, loaded with electrically conductive metallic particles. A variety of conductive filler materials are available to suit a variety of bonding and sealing applications. Depending upon how it is used, it can function as a shielding adhesive or conducting adhesive. Metal Textiles conductive adhesive is easy to apply, has an extremely high bond strength, provides superior shielding performance and is available in custom formulations to meet special requirements and applications. Conductive Silicone Adhesive is available in standard metal tube or cartridge containers of 1.0 fluid oz., 2.5 fluid oz., or 10.3 fluid oz. sizes. Clean surfaces using acetone, MEK, xylene, or isopropyl alcohol. Shelf life of unopened containers is one year from date of shipment, provided that materials are stored dry, below 23°C. Consult the factory if a pure silver filler adhesive with a volume resistivity of .005 is required. VENT PANELS Metal Textiles EMI shielding vent panels provide maximum attenuation with minimal air-flow resistance. Shielding effectiveness is greater than 80 dB at 10 MHz for chromate finished, single layer honeycomb, and is increased to 105 dB using our cross cell construction. By selecting the appropriate frame style, finish, and gasket type, performance can be custom tuned to meet your shielding requirements, and your budget constraints. Shielded vent panels are constructed of aluminum alloy honeycomb, with a perimeter frame of aluminum extrusion for mounting and gasket application. Various gasket options include wire mesh, spring finger, or conductive fabrics.   Honeycomb Shielding Vent Panels – Aluminum: The standard structure is 1/8″ cell adhesive bonded honeycomb, available in 1/2″ or 1/4″ thickness. Steel and Brass honeycomb shields are available on a custom basis. Shielded Mesh Screens – Shielded Mesh Screens replace honeycomb media with several layers of woven wire mesh. They are designed for use on shielded electronic enclosures which require filtered air. Mesh screens are easily removable for cleaning. Framing Options – Standard frame material is extruded aluminum 6063 T-4 alloy. Various C-frame cross sectional configurations are shown on page 2. Many other sizes and styles are available. EMI gasket options include wire mesh and elastomer, groove mounted wire mesh, spring finger gaskets, Metal Textiles oriented wire or Metal Textiles CF conductive fabric over foam gaskets. Mounting – Panels are typically mounted to an enclosure using captive threaded inserts, and threaded fasteners. Shielding Vent Panel Effectiveness – Depending on their size, type of material, finish and gasket type used, shielding vent panels vary in effectiveness. As an example, a 12″ square, tin plated aluminum vent panel with a wire mesh gasket, will provide greater than 90 dB of attenuation, at 1 GHz plane wave. Metal Textiles can provide shielding effectiveness data for your specific vent panel design. The diversity and versatility of our product line enables Metal Textiles to offer a wide range of materials and custom configurations to optimize shielding effectiveness and ensure EMC integrity and quality.   Braided Sleeving Metal Textiles braided sleeving is ideal for applications requiring high temperature or abrasion protection, lubricity, extra strength or other critical applications. Materials include Polyester, Nylon, Fiberglass, Teflon®, Kevlar® and other manmade fibers. Due to its unique construction, the sleeving fits easily over hoses and cables, yet provides a secure and snag-resistant cover. Our sleeving is extremely flexible, allowing for expansion and easy conformance to shapes and contours. The braiding process creates a consistent wall thickness ensuring complete coverage and optimum performance. Sleeving can be custom designed to the specifications of a particular application. Metal Textiles braided sleeving is used to insulate steam tracer lines in oil refineries, as thermal and electrical insulation for the wire and cable industry, for covering tines in metal refining, foundries and steel mills, and wherever else shielding, insulation or protection is required. Our braided sleeving is available in 1/8″ – 24″ i.d. (inside diameter), custom designs, and as braided sleeving over inconel or stainless steel mesh core.   Braided Rope Metal Textiles braided rope is an extremely strong, resilient and flexible fiberglass rope. The special braiding process enables it to spring back to its original shape after compression, making it an excellent choice for gaskets that act as a heat break or door seal. Our aramid ropes allow high strength and controlled elongation to be engineered into the final design while retaining good handling characteristics. Ropes can be manufactured to meet a variety of requirements including high strength, abrasion protection, high temperature, light weight and many other critical requirements. SHIELDING FABRIC OVER FOAM When your designs require EMI gaskets that exhibit high attenuation and low closure force, shielding fabric over foam gaskets conductive fabric gaskets are an ideal choice. By combining a soft core with conductive fabrics, we have created a shielding enclosure gasket that will provide >65 dB attenuation at 1 GHz, and compression loads under 4 lbs. per inch at 25% deflection. Low compression forces allow for lighter, less expensive enclosure designs. Shielding Fabric Over Foam gaskets are the ideal gaskets to use with conductive coatings that can be scratched or damaged by other more abrasive gasket materials. The conductive fabrics available include abrasion-resistant copper and nickel. Custom profiles can be easily created to give you the optimum solution for your enclosure design.
